Description: Representation of public roads showing the Federal Functional Classification (FFC) of each roadway. Functional classification is the process by which public streets and highways are grouped into classes according to the character of service they are intended to provide based on mobility (arterials provide much mobility) and access to the highway (local roads provide much access, but much less mobility). Classifications include Principal Arterial Interstate, Principal Arterial Other Freeways and Expressways (f & e), Other Principal Arterials, Minor Arterials, Major/urban Collectors, Minor Collectors and Local Roads.
