description: The 2018 Casco Bay Orthoimagery dataset consists of orthophotography for the Casco Bay region of Maine. Imagery was collected on June 16 and June 17, 2018 at low tide. The Casco Bay Region covers the shoreline and islands from the westerly shore of Phippsburg to the easterly shore of Cape Elizabeth. The State of Maine DEP requested orthophotos that are untiled (scanline), four band (R, G, B, NIR). GeoTIFF images (with appropriate world file), with 30 cm ground sample distance (GSD) and a 2-foot horizontal spatial accuracy. The raw imagery was acquired using the Intergraph Digital Mapping Camera (DMC) mounted on a fixed wing aircraft at an elevation of approximately 9,500 feet. Digital ortho-rectified images were created from the digital aerial imagery, aerotriangulation results, and a digital elevation model. An orthoimage is remotely sensed image data in which displacement of features in the image caused by terrain relief and sensor orientation have been mathematically removed, thus it combines the image characteristics of a photograph with the geometric qualities of a map. The orthophotography was generated by contractors for the State of Maine DEP in partnership with the Casco Bay Estuary Partnership, the Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Submerged Lands Program, The Nature Conservancy, and using funds from the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife's State Wildlife Grant program. Geomni, Inc. acquired the raw aerial photographs. Cornerstone Energy Services, Inc. processed the raw imagery to create the orthophotos and verify that quality assurance objectives were met.
