Subject: Ecoregional classifications delineate broad geographic patterns incorporating major vegetation types, climate, and geology. Ecoregional classifications provide a useful way of stratifying large landscapes into discrete units for conservation planning efforts. This ecoregional map is at the 'section' level (intermediate between coarser-scaled 'provinces' and finer-scaled 'subsections') and draws from various national and state classification efforts including Bailey (1995), Keys et al. (1995), and McMahon (1990). Ecoregional boundaries were extended to meet the boundaries of METWP24P (the Maine Township boundary polygon layer served by the Maine Office of GIS).
