Shellfish closures depicted in this map service include: bacterial closures due to water discharges and surface water fecal coliform values monitored in accordance with the National Shellfish Sanitation Program; biotoxin closures (species-specific) based on elevated toxin levels in shellfish tissue due to harmful algal bloom-producing phytoplankton in ambient waters; emergency closures due to precipitation-driven non-point source pollution, oil spills, beached dead whales, etc.; and conservation closures enacted by municipal governments.</span></p><p><span /></p><p><span>Data projection is NAD 1983 UTM Zone 19N.</span></p><p><span /></p><p><span>For more information about current shellfish closures in Maine, visit https://www.maine.gov/dmr/fisheries/shellfish/closures</span></p></div></div> |
